Mocking Jay Part 1 - A disappointed review

Hello!

Last Sunday (depending when it is that you are reading this) I took a trip to the cinema with a handful of friends to watch a movie no other than the obvious: Mockingjay part 1.
It's in the title duh.
Like the person I am I decided to do nothing else other than have a banter about it. However, I soon came to the realisation that I ran out of people to complain to about it and decided to turn to my trust friend: Letterboxd.
Letterboxd is a bit of a different social media where people who watch a lot of movies come to review movies and rate each one. You can follow me if you want but ya know it's like totally your choice... http://letterboxd.com/peskylena/

So, on letterboxd I wrote a review about Mockingjay, but because it is recent I got no replies yet.

Any body that used to get excited for a new episode of their favourite cartoon only to be disappointed by finding out it was just a filler in episode, will understand what I mean once they watch this movie.
To me, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 was plain boring. You might defend that there was depth to it, that it was story based and that it was as close to the book as it can get. No matter what you say I will stand with my point for one simple reason:
It is as clear to me as it can get, that this movie was just another from the series of "How do we get as much money as we possibly can".
Sitting and watching this movie I was excited for it, especially that I have not read the book and I wanted to find out what happens to the great female protagonist - Katniss Everdeen. However, I was about 20 minutes into the movie and I realised, that this was just too stretched out. Simply minutes lost on silence and staring competition between characters.
So my final statement would be:

If you want to watch it, watch it since most of other people I went to watch the movie with enjoyed it, but if you're seeing this just because you loved the first two movies - don't waste your time. They're not even in the hunger games.

So um yeah...
I don't plan on becoming a professional reviewer any time soon.

Another thing before I finish off that I want to mention is a little mile stone we met the other day.
So my blog has now officially had over 1k views so woo! ^.^
Thanks for that :)

I never do what I say...

Hello yet again!
Yet again with sorries!

In my previous post I explained to you why I didn't post as much etc. but for one my GCSE courses are killing me (please excuse me if I start explaining the IF formula to you) and

*drumroll please*

I started a new blog!

My and my bud Heather started yet another blog called Not quite North pole. It's all about Christmas because we have nothing to unload out excitedness into so we thought that you internet peoplez might like it and we have something to wrap our heads around. We have made 8 posts so far and we have also managed to keep to a schedule of one post a day. Everyday.

notquitenorthpole.blogspot.co.uk

Just click that if you want to check it out.

I personaly like it as its about Christmas and you know... I LOVE CHRISTMAS.

Also, another thing peeling me away from this blog was Animal Crossing New Leaf. I have recently got a 3DS for my birthday and that's been the circle of attention for me. Since I spend soooo much time on it I was thinking of making a few posts about it. Like my plans of how I want my town set up, or update posts, or ANNOYING LITTLE PESTS THAT MOVE IN THE LEAST CONVENIENT SPOTS OF ALL TIME.

Alright I'm sorry for the lack of content as of recent but like I mentioned I have no time, for example right now, I need to run to print off my geography essey.

I'll see ya cool kids soon, I hope!

Peace out,

Monday 25 August 2014

Wow I need to catch up.

As it turns out, I'm such a good blogger (see what I did there) that I missed my blog's birthday...

By almost two months.

Even though my audience is like tiny.

Like tiny tiny.

I mean this tiny:

I still want to post not only because I hope the audience expands someday, but also because I enjoy having this online diary thing where I post without having people judge my opinions.

Oh no wait. I'm on the internet.

So anyway. I will often-er than once a year now as I have made up my mind about what I want to post about more as I have....

I haven't done anything interesting during the summer holidays. But you know, I can always start planning early for Christmas ^.^ (and I have).

At the moment my router is busted meaning that posting will be quite difficult but the problem should be fixed in the next couple of days.

The topics I will hopefully post about include:
  • My Christmas Wish Bottle (Wow I'm a needy kid)
  • What books I read and currently am reading
  • What I wasted my money on during the holidays
  • Preparing for school both physically and mentally

Maybe not the last one since I have problems with that myself.

Apart from that, I wanted to make my dog a bit of a theme of a blog because spending hours looking through blogs more or less have a theme and my dog is... Well he's a bit of a restless dog.

I'll see you soon with "articles" worth reading and more humour that isn't really humorous.

Peace out peeps. ^.^

What books do I have

In the past few months I got really involved with books.
Even my obsession of stationery changed to Stooks (stationery and books) so that's what -

I'm sorry but me trying to combine words is terrible.

So books is what I've been spending a lot of my savings for.
In the last 2 days, I bought 3 books - that's 1.5 books a day...
That was the best thinking I did in like... Wait how old am I?

Anyway...

I'm going to show you all the books I have ^.^

Imdoneokbye!

But seriously, lemme tell you more about them, because a 100 word post doesn't feel like enough especially with the amount of stuff I say in everyday life.

In case you can't read the spines because you're a rebel, here's the list:

  • The Hobbit (which I sort of suspect was borrowed from school but never returned)
  • I AM PILGRIM (dun dun duuuun)
  • Doctor Sleep
  • The Book Thief
  • The Killer Inside Me (it's not even mine, it just lives on my desk)
  • Forest Born
  • River Secrets
  • Enna Burning
  • The Goose Girl
  • The Sugar Girls
  • HOGFATHER
  • Pride & Prejudice (because every girl has to read it at some point in their life)
So I do have a weird variety of books, I'll give you that.
I haven't read all of them YET. I just sort of, plan ahead.
I read the Books of Bayern, The Hobbit and I am half way through The Book Thief (but I'm going to start reading it from the beginning this week because REASONS).

And that's that. I do have a big pile of embarrassing books in my wardrobe, however, going from Greek Mythology, through Spongebob jokes all the way to Hammy the Wonderful Hamster - too cool for school. Although I don't recall myself finishing them ever, and I's rather them to stay in the wardrobe away from the light and sight of others.

Hope you like the #NERD side of me...
Yes I just used a hashtag on blogger
YES I used it ironically
Jeez, some people.

Books of Bayern - Review

Ok...
Just ignore the date this was meant to be posted on in the last post...

However, instead of finishing just the first book from the series (and the second before that because of reasons) I've read all of them which means I can review them all. ^.^

Books of Bayern is a quadrilogy (it's 4 books, duuuh) written by Shannon Hale and goes in the order shown on the diagram above (I'm starting to sound like a stewardess).

Here we go.

The Goose Girl

I'd say that for those who read all The Books of Bayern, The Goose Girl is going to be their favourite. However my opinion on that, would be different - but we'll get to that in a while.
It's a brilliant story to get your mind off everyday life and is absolutely brilliant for mid-autumn days when you can't really go outside. I thoroughly enjoyed it from the start to the end.
A word of advice: If you're planning on reading the whole
series, it's not compulsory, but does help a lot if you read
it in the order they were released in so that none of it is
spoiled and you understand who the characters are, etc.

Blurb:
'You, what are you? The brat of lucky
parents who were related to a childless king.
There is no such thing as royal blood.'
At the age of sixteen Crown Princess Ani is told she must leave everything she knows, to marry someone she has never met. It will create a powerful alliance. But fate has much worse in store for her, Ani must use every ounce of cunning and determination to defend what is rightfully hers, from those who want to take it from her.

Enna Burning
As I was saying before, Goose Girl isn't my favourite - Enna Burning is. The quality of writing is still kept top notch in the second book but I just enjoyed it more - probably because this is the first one from the series I read. The protagonist is changed to a character who you meet in the previous book, and the world and history stays the same, it's just a different turn of events.

Blurb:
When Enna is given a mysterious
piece of vellum that teaches her how
to create fire - without a spark, without a
flint - Enna cannot decide if this is a power
she wants, or something that should be extinguished
for ever. Then war threatens her country and Enna's
judgement becomes irrelevant. But she never
imagined that control over the life-giving energy of
fire could become something so destructive. It is
starting to consume her and everything she loves.

River Secrets
Just like the books before, you get a different protagonist - Razo. In my opinion, I enjoyed this book the least. However, the reason for that might be how short it is (290 pages) and that made me concious of how fast I am progressing through it, considering I had only one more book left aswell. Other than that, I really did like the choice of for the main character and how the surroundings reacted to his personality.

Blurb:
A fierce war between two kingdoms is over.
But after some gruesome discoveries it becomes
clear that not everyone is happy with peace. How
far are they prepared to go to provoke a new war?
And what will happen to Anidori's friends,
trapped in a hostile country with their enemies
gathering against them?

Forest Born

The longest and the last (so far!) book from the Books of Bayern, and definitely the one that makes you get to know your character the most as well as causing you to ghasp at the most intense moments. My favourite parts of the book were when you could see that the author was planning this book from the very first word, or even from the very first book in the series.

Blurb:
Growing up in the Forest, Rin always turns
to the trees when she needs peace or reassurance,
then one day she senses a change. Rin knows
that something bad is happening, and maybe she will
find answers in the city. But a mysterious threat haunts
Bayern too, and Rin must join the magical fire sisters - Isi,
Enna and Dasha - before venturing back into the woods
towards kingdom of Kel, to face what lies
in wait for all of them.

So there you have it - my opinions (because lets face it, it wasn't a review) on the Books of Bayern quadrilogy. I really want someone to make these a film so hopefully some super hipster/popular blogger or a fil director finds this post and makes these books a big thing.

Hope you enjoyed :)

What have I done?!

Hey guys!

So if you're reading this then you'll probably have seen some of the changes I have done, and you've probably noticed the header and the background first.

So I REALLY didn't like the one I made previously. I tried to make the headers seasonal like previously it was spring themed, hence the flowers, but in the end it just turned out to not be the kind of thing which describes me. So if any of you happen to want to give me a gift for valentines day (please don't) then take note: I HATE FLOWERS. Most of them smell weird, you have to make an effort to change the water and then they'll probably end up withering since I'm the one taking care of them.

Damn sorry this has turned into a very depressing post.

Annnnyway.
The changes I have made include:
  • Header
  • Background (it's kind of ironic since they've got flowers on, oops)
  • Poll
  • Twitter feed
  • And a count down
So (I have to stop opening sentences with 'So' I'm sorry), my birthday is in June and I really can't wait because I want  3DS XL in hot pink. I don't even like pink, but I think it's a funny thing to have, don't judge ok. And I might sound like a spoiled kid but I'm really not, it's just the way it is this year. I want too much this year and then I didn't want anything last year, and holy crap I'm talking too much.
SO BASICALLY (darn I did it again) the countdown is towards my birthday.

The twitter feed is there for you to see what things I retweet because I try not to be depressing like pretty much all teenagers these days.

The background got changed because the daisies were really annoying me, GUESS WHY.

And the poll is there for me to kinda see what you guys like and also see how few people look at this blog.

Ok, that would be it for now. I'm going to try and finish my book today so that I can do a review on it either today or tomorrow. (SPOILER): The book dies. I mean the character dies. I mean the book is awesome.

Peace out.

Snacks

These days I started having some snacks now and then but in BIGGER amounts than ever. I have also decided that some of these are weird, and by some I mean 1 or 2. So here we go!

Apples

I really like apples, especially the sweet red ones but for the past few weeks that sometimes seems to be the only thing I eat. To be honest with you lot, I don't eat healthy (just don't tell my mum) and so I guess I need all that potassium, vitamin A as well as pantothenic acid. You see our bodies evolved to have a hunger/taste for all the things it lacks. Like babies eat the paint off the walls because they need zinc or vampires drink blood because they need iron. It's just a natural mechanism we have from cavemen times when we didn't really know what was good for us, so I guess that is the reason for my snack favourites these days.

See I actually did my research this time!

Plain Bread

Ok. I know it might not be that weird because a lot of people eat plain bread a lot, but I can eat half a loaf in one go. And I'm not even hungry most of the time. To go with that, bread is full of carbs which, according to all those super skinny super models, is very fattening, so basically you can just watch and see how I become Uk's most obese teenager.

Plain Pasta

I'm not sure if this counts as a snack but it looks to me like I'm not getting enough carbohydrates. Besides that I put a lot of salt into the water I cook my pasta in, so just watch and learn how I a heart attack.

Chocolate

You know, this is pretty much explanatory. Chocolate has milk in it, which is healthy for your teeth and bones, it also has coca and sugar in it which are both plants before they were made into powder. And chocolate doesn't give you pimples after all!
Ok. Maybe it's not that good for you, but I am not going to stop eating it.

And that was pretty much what I eat on a daily basis! I hope you some what feel better about yourself now. And if you feel worse, then join the club.

Pokemon in real life: Pros & Cons

Being a hardcore fan of the Pokemon anime series, I decided to finally do a post about Pokemon. However, I wasn't prepared to talk about how cute Pichu is but then how useless he is in the games for a full post so I decided to do a

PROS & CONS LIST
(sounds better in my head)

So basically I will tell you what, in my opinion, are the good and bad sides of having Pokemon in real life!

Let's get started ^.^

Positives c:

  • Cute animal-friends to defend you whenever you're in danger.
  • They will understand what you're saying unlike real life animals.
  • Un-natural powers can be useful for police and healing injured.
  • Children (and adults!) have more reasons to go outside
  • Pokemon powers help us understand biology, physics and chemistry better.

Negatives :c

  • RSPCA problems
  • Pokemon abandoned in pokeballs
  • Wild pokemon attacking humans
  • Animals used for war
  • Pokemons used as experiments and used for furs etc.
  • Imagine this: a 3 feet tall bee with spikes instead of it's legs and red eyes controlled by that one guy who hates you in school. Yeah, I think so too.

So that's all I could come up with in my space of time. I hope you enjoyed! ^.^

High School Essentials

Today, I wanted to introduce you to my list of 'High School Essentials' which will hopefully help you survive high school ^.^

So let's jump straight in!

#1 - A friend

No matter how socially awkward you think you are. No matter how much you might hate everybody in your school. There has to be at least one you can bare with. Getting through high school all on your own can be boring, tiring and scary. Having at least one person you can talk to will save you from things like - sitting next to people you don't know, working on group projects on your own or even getting bullied.
Don't act like there is nobody else with your preferences out there, there always is.

#2 - A comfortable bag

Not necessarily bags like the ones on the picture... But a bag that you'll feel comfortable with. There are free guidelines when buying a bag for school:
Size
Comfort of use
Look
You don't really want a bag that you can't fit your books into, that digs into your shoulders or one that makes people think you're actually a disguised 5 year old girl. And if you think that surviving without a bag (especially at the start) in high school is easy, think again. You'll have to keep going to your locker all the time and if not then you'll have to carry TRILLIONS UPON MILLIONS UPON INFINITIES of books.

#3 - A phone

You might think I'm going over the top teen on this one, but a mobile phone is a must in a lot of scenarios.
There are things like texting your friends where they are, asking your mum to bring your homework because you left it but I mean the most important of all...
AWKWARD SITUATIONS.
Whenever we look like we're forever alone whilst standing in the queue, BAM! Just bring out a phone and pretend you're texting when you're actually playing Flappy Bird. Ehhhh, flappy bird.

#3 - Velcro shoes / Good knot

Most of my adventures of me re-tying my shoes (or at least trying) ended up with me being left behind by my "hawk eye" friends. I want to spare you some hatred towards your friend by making you wear velcro shoes to school or at least spending some time on googling how to tie your shoes so that they don't UNTIE EVERY 5 DAMN MINUTES.

What I do is just tie it the normal way but tie the loop things together again so that they don't untie as easily and so far, it works fine.

So that's it for my school essentials. I hope I helped you out or at least you enjoyed it.

See you soon ^.^

WHERE ARE YOU?!

Hey guys!
So I have been away for quite some time because of Christmas and other stuff. And I have also realised that I haven't been posting very often last year, but I want to make it up this year and actually get into blogging. I have quite a lot of ideas for posts so you can expect them quite soon.

I am also working on a new header right now since the one right now is still Christmas themed (I know I am soooo up to date!) and I don't like the one I had previously too much so I'll make a new one.

Sorry, once again, for the lack of posts. I'll try to be cool this time! :p
